We often question if we matter to the Creator, especially when life gets messy or painful. Through scripture and personal experience, this post explores how God—who is love—sees you not as a distant observer, but as a cherished, intentional, and permanent member of His family.

In this post, I want to look at some Bible verses and a personal experience that reveal how God truly sees us. We often face persistent nagging thoughts telling us we aren’t enough, that we are insignificant, or that we’ve messed up too badly for God to love us. These are the lies of the enemy, designed to alienate us from the truth of God’s love for us. To find the reality, we can look at the evidence in the Bible. What I’ve found in my own journey is that His love is the foundational anchor for how He sees us. Yet so many of us walk around with a quiet ache in our hearts, wondering if we really matter to the creator of this vast universe.

Most of our doubts or confusion about how God sees us fall into the categories of identity, performance or circumstances, or all of these.

Our Identity: The Truth of Who We Are

We often define ourselves by our latest failure, our job title, or the labels others have placed on us. But God’s perspective is so much more beautiful. In a world of billions of people, you might find yourself wondering: “Do I actually matter to God?”

The Evidence of His Heart: To understand your worth and identity, we first need to understand God’s nature. The Bible tells us plainly that "God is love" (1 John 4:8). This isn't just a feeling He has; it is who He is. He cannot "not" love you, because to do so would be to go against His own nature. He loved us long before we ever thought to look for Him (1 John 4:19). The Bible reveals God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), so we can trust that what He says about you is the absolute truth. Here is the evidence of how He truly sees you:

  • You were designed with intention: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb... I am fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:13-14). You are not a mistake; you are a masterpiece He sat down to knit together personally.

  • You are His Child: "See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!" (1 John 3:1). He didn't just give us a gift; He gave us a permanent place in His family.

  • He is a Personal Father: Romans 8:15 tells us we have received a "spirit of sonship" (adoption). This means we have the right to call out to Him as "Abba"—a term of deep, relational intimacy similar to “Daddy.”

  • You can trust His Word: Hebrews 6:18 says “it is impossible for God to lie.” If God says you have worth, it is a settled fact. In a world of shifting opinions, He is faithful—His word is the one constant you can count on.

Our Performance: Love That Isn’t Earned

Many of us walk around with a heavy sense of guilt, feeling like we are on permanent probation—always being judged for our mistakes or wrong choices. We find ourselves asking: Is He disappointed or angry with me? Is His love conditional on my behavior? Does he favor some over others?

The Evidence of His Grace: The Bible tells us that God’s love isn't a reward for being good or perfect—it is a gift. You might think your situation is beyond repair or it is too messy to deserve His love. No matter how irredeemable you think your situation is you can be reconciled to Him. He went to the cross to pay the price for our mess, offering us a clean slate through His forgiveness when we repent and turn to Him.

  • He loved you at your worst: "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). He didn't wait for us to get it right. He went to the cross while we were still messy. God’s grace is bigger than your biggest failure.

  • His love is unbreakable: Romans 8:38-39 promises that nothing—not our past, our future, or our deepest failures—can separate us from His love.

  • It’s a love that overflows: Ephesians 3:18-19 prays that you would grasp "how wide and long and high and deep" the love of Christ is—a love that is actually too big to fully "know" with just our heads.

  • He doesn't play favorites: Acts 10:34 says God, “does not show favoritism”. This is an idiom meaning He doesn't play favorites based on status or behavior. His love is like the sun and rain—it shines and falls on everyone equally (Matthew 5:45).

  • His love is for the whole world: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son..." (John 3:16) "The world" includes everyone. His love is the oxygen of the universe—available to all.

  • He delights in you: Zephaniah 3:17 God says, "I will take great delight in you" and "will rejoice over you with singing." He isn't just tolerating you; He actually enjoys you.

Our Circumstances: When Life Doesn't Make Sense

Sometimes, our circumstances make it hard to believe God loves us. When things go well, it’s easy to feel His favor; but when we face suffering or silence, we can feel abandoned or unheard. This is often the hardest struggle people have with God: If He loves us, why does He allow bad things to happen to good or innocent people?

The Evidence of His Character: God doesn't promise a life without trouble or suffering, but He does promise He will never leave us. He doesn't just watch our pain from a distance; He enters into it with us for an ultimate purpose we cannot now see or fully understand. However, he promises to heal, restore and comfort us.

  • He is the Great Redeemer: (Romans 8:28) God doesn't cause every tragedy, but He is a master at taking what was intended for harm and transforming it into something purposeful (Genesis 50:20).

  • He is Present in the Storm: (Hebrews 13:5) His promise is absolute: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” You might not feel Him in the chaos, but His presence isn't based on our feelings—it's based on His promise.

  • He is Near to the Hurting: (Psalm 34:18) "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted." This is one of the most powerful truths in scripture—God actually moves closer when our hearts are breaking.

  • He Invites You to Rest: (Matthew 11:28) Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened." He doesn't ask you to "fix" your situation before coming to Him; He offers His peace as your resting place right in the middle of it.

  • The Holy Spirit is Your Helper: (Romans 8:26) In our weakest moments, the Spirit intercedes for us. As a New Covenant companion, He delights in the details of our lives, providing guidance and comfort through every struggle—no matter how big or small.

When His Truth Becomes Real: My Moments of Confirmation

While the Bible verses gave me biblical evidence of God’s love for me, my prayer time gave me the personal experience and confirmation. For years, as I quieted myself to hear God’s voice, I would often hear a soft, gentle voice: "My most precious daughter, I love you. You are very special to us." Even though I still face moments of doubt and fear, hearing those words over and over finally reached the deepest parts of my heart. They became a shield against those old negative thoughts, anchoring my worth and the depth of His love for me and all people.

A Deep Confirmation in the Throne Room

One day, I experienced a sudden vision during my prayer time in which I felt God revealed to me how He saw me. I saw myself dressed in a long, beautiful, satin royal blue princess-style dress ornate with gold trimmings. My hair was perfectly styled, adorned with a delicate, beautiful crown. I was entering a grand throne room, but I wasn't there as a distant observer or a temporary guest. I was invited up to take a seat next to the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. In that moment, I felt I belonged—I was royalty; a princess. I was His beloved daughter, and it moved me to tears.

Resting in The Truth

If you don't see yourself as God’s most precious son or daughter, you aren't seeing yourself as He sees you. You are seeing a distorted image of yourself.

The truth is that you are cherished as a family member, you are seen, and you are loved beyond measure without having to earn it. God wants us to rest in the truth that we are the focus and desire of His heart—not just as followers, but valuable members of His divine family. Whatever mirror you’ve been looking in lately, I hope today you caught a glimpse of the one God is holding up for you.

★ Key Takeaways: The Evidence of How He Sees You

  • Love is His Nature, not a Choice: Because "God is love" (1 John 4:8), He cannot stop loving you without stopping being Himself. His love is the "oxygen of the universe"—always available, always present.

  • You Are an Intentional Masterpiece: You weren't just born; you were "knit together" (Psalm 139). You are a deliberate design, not a random occurrence or mistake.

  • Grace Outruns Your Performance: Christ didn't wait for you to get your act together before going to the cross (Romans 5:8). Your mistakes don't put you on "probation"; they are already covered by His sacrifice.

  • A Permanent Seat with God: Through the "spirit of sonship," you have been invited up from a distant observer to a beloved family member. You aren't a temporary guest in the Kingdom; you have a permanent seat in His divine family.

  • Trust the Character, Not the Circumstance: He is "close to the brokenhearted" (Psalm 34:18) and offers rest to the weary (Matthew 11:28). He is the Great Redeemer who transforms even the messiest circumstances into a life with purpose.

  • Reject the Distorted Image: If you don't see yourself as His precious child, you aren't seeing yourself the way God sees you—you are looking in a distorted mirror. It’s time to rest in how He actually sees you.
